Back cover of the Black box

These were the most elaborate and I cannot find a master list or brochure for them, even though my box for Liberty Belle boasted a special Boutique catalog inside. I also haven’t found one online either.

This series came out in 1977.

The Black box dresses sold for $4.95 according to Sandra Bryan in her book Cher Doll & Her Celebrity Friends, which is oddly cheap for outfits more elaborate than the Green and Purple series. Maybe doll dresses were in a glut. She says there were 6 total.

Here are the ones I know about based on the back of the box and online searches:

  1. Mother Goose: a multicolored Mae West outfit from the Cher show
  2. Brocade Caper: looks similar to the pink Three Musketeer’s outfit on the back of the box
  3. Mint Parfait: looks like a green version of the Pink Fluff (on the back of the box it’s pink)
  4. Liberty Belle: a New England Colonial outfit probably made because of the country’s bicentennial that year.
  5. Velvet Lady: this looks like the gypsy outfit on the back of the box

Looks to be missing from my list based on the back cover. Sandra Bryan in her book lists the following as #6:

  1. Stormy Weather: the fur coat listed on the back might have  actually sold as a black coat and hat with white fur trim.
